Baby Leopard Seal

Much excitement in Timaru this week when a Leopard Seal arrived at the bay and a few days later proceeded to give birth to astounded onlookers. A rare phenomenon as they seldom come near NZ.
It is of course cordoned off but people are going down in their hundreds to see it. First time I went down They were just lying close sleeping. Went back a couple of hours later and the wee pup was opening her eyes and flipping her flippers at time whilst mum continued to sleep. Apparently they will stay that way for a couple of weeks and then off to sea where the pup will then fend for itself. Off to the side a great blackbacked gull was busy feeding off the after birth. GROSSE.
The pup is now three days old but still pretty small.
I have had a great day went to watch the English play the Welsh and had to leave before the finish to go to church. Lucky enough to see the finish tonight at a friends over a glass of wine. What a game both teams with such good kickers. I was abit biased towards the Welsh with their NZ coach.
My Grandson is playing in the NZ secondary schools curling tournament in Auckland. They have won two and are playing again at the moment. Am so proud of him whether they win the final or not.
Putting up some extras tonight so enjoy my visit to see the Leopard Seal. I know several other blippers have already put it up but these are my shots.
