Maps and maxi dresses

So this morning I got up at 5am (see my artful 8am shot of the Pyrenees as my Easyjet flight flew over them) to catch a flight to Majorca to surprise my parents who are on holiday here and celebrating their wedding anniversary.

The plan was fraught with potential problems. Like, what if they didn't want me to surprise them? How would I find them?

But I knew it was a good idea the minute the taxi hit the motorway and pointed towards the quite frankly stunning mountainous Pollensa region of the island.

I put my headphones on and enjoyed a Rolling Stones soundtrack on my 50 minute transfer across the island.

I hung out at my hotel (staying at theirs would have been a bit strange) today and worked this afternoon by the pool. At 5pm, armed with a map and dressed in my favourite maxi dress, I trudged across the resort to what I hoped was their hotel.

I headed straight to the pool, just as I had planned it in my perfect version of how it would play out and guess what? They were there. Brown as berries and relaxed, staring out to sea together like the lovebirds they are. I got the anniversary card out of my bag just as my Mum's mouth fell open in shock and said "A first class stamp would have been cheaper. Sorry it's late. Happy Anniversary!"

We're off out for dinner in a bit. I miss Angus and Squidge already, but how often do you get your parents to yourself at my age? I intend to make the most of the next few days.

Oh and in case you wondered, I think they were happy to see me! Hiccup. That's the Sangria, it's gone right to my head already....
