East Calder

The parish church of East Calder.

Not a particularly pretty village, but one that tries to keep its identity even though it is close to Livingston. However we know that 2,500 houses are planned to be built here, along with new roads and a High School in the near future. This will swamp the village and change it's character. All the good farmland and ancient hedgerows will disappear yet where will all these new families find work? The road to Edinburgh will not be able to accommodate the extra traffic. It's hard enough to get an appointment to see a doctor now - how will the surgery cope? We were consulted on the plans - but it all went through despite the objections.
Soon Edinburgh and Glasgow will meet across the central belt of Scotland !
