Citylabs - Manchester

Brilliant visit today to Citylabs in Manchester to plan our forthcoming breakfast event re: Devolution Manchester which to me is the most important thing that has happened to Manchester since the Industrial Revolution.  The amazing think about Citylabs is that it is built on the site of the old Manchester Royal Eye Hospital thus preserving the Victorian façade and adding a state of the art 100,000 sq ft building immediately behind - see main photo.  The building cannot be seen from the main road as shown by the top right photo. Second photo down on RHS is the door to the old Out-Patients department which I went through some 26 years ago carrying our son (he was just 2 at the time) - he had burned both of his eyes with Fairy Liquid (you know, the stuff that is so mild and gentle - no chance).  He had to spend a night in the old hospital and then I took him back a few days later to see how he was doing - he had burned quite a number of layers of skin off his eyeballs - very painful and sensitive but soon mended thank goodness.  Third down, RHS shows the old walls still intact, inside and middle bottom row, the designers have even left the original tiles.  On my way back to the car park I saw one of the early Royal Infirmary building which, from memory in my time, used to house the Medical Records Department - last photo bottom left.  If you look closely enough you will see a Christmas tree in the upstairs window - what is going on!
