Another Languedoc year...

In the middle of the building site that is the birthplace of our new house I scattered some poppy seeds a couple of months ago.

I didn't hold out much hope that they would take, but it was a moment of extreme optimism coupled with frustration at being unable to start the new garden.

The seeds were tamped into schiste; grim-looking grey slate sheets which had previously been planted with grapevines for donkey's years.

I forgot all about them, then last week spotted this patch of wonderful feisty plants. They are glorious and give me real hope for the garden to come.
