Big Trek
After a 9 hour sleep woke up just after 7 feeling so refreshed! Sun was just coming up as I looked out to the inner courtyard of the house. The windows of our bedroom looks out over in on an upper level. And there is a tree growing in the middle with tables and chairs where we have breakfast. There are just four bedrooms for customers and we are in one that would be called a junior suite in a hotel. Much better this though as the owners are lovely and take good care and have been given good tips of where to eat and what to do in the area.
After the delicious breakfast of local produce we decided to walk the coastal path. Perfect walking temperatures of around 22 and there was a cooling breeze from the sea. The Atlantic coastline is stunning here. Sometimes you just had to stop and watch the big waves breaking on the cliffs and at some points there were giant stacks with waves crashing over the top with spray spreading out in the air. Beautiful and deafening too! I was surprised that the path was so sandy rather than stony, so it was much harder going than expected. Kinda like what I would expect a walk in the Outback to be!! Good exercise though. Walked for around three hours and when we got back to the harbour stopped for food at a restaurant overlooking the Ocean. We shared a salad, bruschetta and crepe for pudding washed down with fresh lemonade. Mmmmmm. Good food!
Wander round the old town after a short nap stopping for a coffee out in the sunshine at a little cafe then another walk on another part of the coast to a shipwrecked boat which got battered by the rocks in the 1940s, Dutch. There are spectacular sunsets here and that's two beauties seen now.
Booked into a restaurant that was recommended and all the menu was in Portuguese. The couple at the next table were getting some stuff explained so just copied their choice which turned out very tasty. Another great meal and then home to bed after a short walk. Out like a light again!
