Amazonia

We are having such an amazing trip. As we had no wifi in the Amazon, I'll be back-blipping. I'm missing reading what everyone is up to, but we really have very little down time on this adventure.

The journey through the Andes was really interesting. We rose to 4200 metres so at the top were in cloud for a cold and wet leg stretch before going down the other side towards the Amazon. It looked a bit bleak like Scottsh hills with not much growing till we got further down into the cloud forest. Fabien had a surprise for us - he stopped for coffee but it was not only coffe, but also little enterprise where they'd put out feeders with sugar water to attract all sorts of humming birds. They were so pretty, but hard to get photos of, as they moved so fast.

We continued down through a narrow valley with very high waterfalls, and many landslides as the area is so unstable despite all the vegetation. We had a lunch stop where the temperature was quite pleasant before we reached the town of Tena, in the Amazon basin. We continued for a while on a rough road, till even that ended, and we got on a motorised canoe for a 10 minute ride down the river.Arajuno. It was almost dark when we got to Liana Lodge, where we stayed in a rustic cabin, with only candles for light. We had dinner then got kitted out with wellies and took our torches and walking poles back to the boat which dropped us off for a walk in the dark for a couple of hours. We had an indigenous guide who pointed out bugs, spiders (some poisonous) and frogs.

This is a collage of some of the critters we saw. If only I could upload more I'd show you the humming birds!
