Kitchen gadget

Time for a quick blip today.  The weekly theme is kitchen gadget, and since this is likely the only opportunity I'll get to blip a gadget, this one came in handy!  It's a bit of a follow up to yesterday's blip of the apple tree.  Our neighbour lent us this handy strainer that she uses for making apple sauce.  We have a peeler and corer, but this works great as well.  No need to peel or core the apples, just quarter them, trim off the stem and blossom ends, and cook until softened, then put them in the strainer and mush them through the holes with the pestle.  I did core them, but next time I won't bother.   There was so little waste.  I like our chunkier apple sauce but this was delicious too.  We like raisins and craisins in our sauce, so I simmered them separately and also simmered some of the figs that G had dried, then mixed them into the sauce.  Yum!  Perfect for breakfast with yogurt or cottage cheese.
Yesterday afternoon, a dragonfly hit our window.  G rescued it and it posed for a photo on his finger before flying off.  He said it was trying to nibble him!  I included it an an extra.
