モンクロシャチホコ　(Phalera flavescens)

Possibly the ugliest caterpillar I've seen in my life.

Phalera flavescens is not content with looking like a cat turd peppered with tranquilizer darts, when you approach this thing it throws it's back and tail up at an almost spastic 90 degree angle, and starts frothing yellow spit bubbles till they roll back off it's head and start dripping on it's back.

I don't know the effect on birds and other local fauna, but I for one certainly wouldn't eat it.
