Going-To-The-Sun Road

We left Lake McDonald at the crack of dawn to beat the tourists to Logan Pass where we were to hike up to Hidden Lake. The main picture is Mt Oberlin with its hanging glacier and Bird-Woman Falls...named after Sacagawea. Ma Nature had other plans for us as the winds were howling at 35-45MPH and we were lashed with rain. It was blasting the tips of Clements, Heavy-Runner and Bear Hat mtns. with snow. (extras) We voted to bag the 3 mile hike and scoot around to Many Glacer on Swift-Current Lake. We drove through the now tamed Reynolds Fire to St. Mary's Lake with little Wild Goose Island.....fond memories there as a kid playing pirates on our own island. On the way, we stopped into the notorious Babb Bar, owned by a Blackfeet friend of MK's brothers. See GlassRoad's entry. Many Glacier Lodge is celebrating 100 years of service and was successfully propped up during 4 years' renovation before it tumbled into the lake in front of it. Next stop, East Glacier Village and our stay at the magnificent Glacier Park Lodge, which is 102 years old now. The atrium soars up to our rooms on the very high 3rd floor...no elevator; so schlepping our bags and gear up 3.5 flights was our hike for the day. Into the village, we chose Serrano's for a great finish to the day.
