Day 2: Lake McDonald, Trail of the Cedars, Etc.
Sunday dawned with smoke-free skies!! We checked into our rooms at Lake McDonald Lodge...the annex; not the magnificent 101 year old Swiss/Native American-themed lodge with its huge hand-painted skin chandeliers (extras). We had elk and bison meats in the lodge dining room and headed for the trails. First came the Trail of the Cedars...magnificent old-growth cedar giants. The fallen offered us some fabulous organic sculptures with their interwoven roots.
Avalanche Creek was at its summer ebb, but still offered a roaring show as it polished and scoured boulders.
Evening called us to Eddie's in Apgar Village where the last rental boat made its way to the dock and 2 very-happy-to-be-back-on-shore people told us it was a bit choppy out in the center of Lake McDonald. With nightfall came the rain...yessss! The smoke has disappeared!
