A slice of Lesley's life

New things

I've always been a bit more of a new year in September rather than January sort of a person. So I've decided on a sort of new year resolution which involves teaching the kids to cook. The method I have chosen is that each month (roughly) they pick something they want to learn to cook and make it once a week until they have perfected it and can cook it without assistance. Anna started off today with making the dough for pasta that will become ravioli tomorrow. As a bonus, the recipe left over 4 egg whites so we threw in meringues too. Later in the week Jackson will be starting with Spaghetti Bolognaise.

Anna has been nagging me to make pasta for so long it is embarrassing so it turned a failed outing into a positive when we had to cancel this afternoon's plans. Jackson spent a splendid hour doing homework this morning which was great for his stamina building and oiling his rusty brain but unfortunately drained him of just about all his energy supplies for about three hours. On the plus side he did then rally to play with Albi in the garden and have some fun with his sister. So again a small crash that he recovered from relatively quickly, rather than the greater ones of the past so still in the right direction.

Once I'd taken the dog for a long walk and supervised the kitchen activities I took the opportunity for a relaxing catch-up with The Great British Bake-Off. As Anna said a good thing we'd already been baking.

And to add to the cooking theme Carlos made us a splendid roast beef dinner and we found out that Anna loves horse-radish sauce. Oh, and we entertained ourselves with food based quizzes so on reflection a fairly foodie Sunday so an especially apt blip.
