The Dingle, Shrewsbury
In Shrewsbury for the 2015 Folk Festival over 4 days. Before the evening's entertainment started we went in search of food and a walk around the town. We were unsuccessful in the food department, having to make do with Ask Italian rather than the place we were aiming for - it was not serving food til later.
The Dingle is the pride and joy of Shrewsbury's flower display. The town is indeed a town of flowers and is well known for its Flower Show.
Percy Thrower, well known to us older people, was Parks Superintendent for several years as well as being the first gardening expert on TV.
The evening's entertainment ended up good. Steve Knightly from Show of Hands opened the concert, followed by Kate Rusby. The headline act Dawes from California were a complete change of mood so we left after a couple of songs and went to listen Nancy Kerr on another stage. Very good she and her band were too.
The morning was energetic, a walk into town for coffee and scones, followed by a record ascent of the Wrekin. Half an hour from the Forest Glen to the top and 25 minutes back down and a round trip of 8 miles all told, add that to the walk in Shrewsbury made it an 11 mile day. No wonder the pints slipped down easily.
