Gascoyne River....dry

The Gascoyne river in the North of Western Australia supports a huge irrigation area, mainly bananas, mangoes and tomatoes.

Even though it is not running there is an underground flow which supports the industry all year round

At peak flow this patch of red dirt can carry up to 7 meters of water at a raging pace

The surrounding floodplains will overflow and you will find many of the roads in the area will be closed for a week or two.

We also crossed over the Minilya River, which whilst smaller has similar attributes.

A friend of mine lost his great grand father on this river in the 1800's...looking for water and not finding it.
