Tom's Window

This striking stained glass window is situated at the end of a link corridor in the Beatson Centre in Gartnavel Hospital  in remembrance of Tom Scott (1932-1997), a tireless advocate and campaigner for more and better cancer care services in Scotland. It is designed in a symbolic 'T' shape for Tom and features four linking panels depicting aspects of his life: 
1: the Glasgow University crest where Tom helped to establish the chair of Palliative Medicine 
2: Central is a single dove, image of peace, and the crest is that of the Scott family 
3: Heriot-Watt University's crest where Tom was the first Chaplain 
4: Trees with their roots firmly embedded in Mother Earth are central to this design. A child with arms outstretched looks in wonderment at the living world with the river depicting the water of life.
It is a great work of art designed by Adam Robson and produced by Bryan Hutchinson in his Glasgow studio.  It is symbolic of the calm and positive atmosphere in the Beatson - the lead centre for non-surgical cancer care in the West of Scotland. More information at Tom's Window webpage.
