Mr. R

I remembered him from a previous visit to the Center for the Blind earlier this year. He was playing bongo drums, dancing and had quite some moves. Today, with a little prompting, he pulled out his harmonica and played a wonderful rendition of Amazing Grace.

Mr. R lost his sight in 82, after working for 16 years in one of DC's hospital, managing its laundry operations. He is quite an engaging character, with an easy smile and contagious laughter.

I had to think carefully about how to take portraits of blind people: so much of a portrait's strength usually lies in the eyes. I've added a few extras and would love feedback on whether I hit the mark.
