Scarce Chaser
I had consulted the Country Tracks weather, then to double check, looked on the Met weather website; it was going to be sunny for a few hours! Hoping to catch this window, which I luckily did, I ventured over to my local reserve. I usually walk right around it, but today decided to concentrate on a particular stretch of the Nene, where I knew there were lots of finches, robins, tits, and other smaller birds. But I was mainly here for the mayflies, damselflies, dragonflies, flies, beetles, etc. As it happened, for ten minutes, I had the pleasure of observing a barn owl in flight and hunting. On the way back (and about fifteen minutes before it started to rain), I found three of these Scarce Chaser dragonflies. This (apparently female) one had been somewhat got-at, but was still able to fly around.
