holiday (day 9)

What a strange day.

Lovely August sunshine. Some garden work to be done. Lunch on the terrace. All normal stuff.

Then at 4 we jumped on our bikes to go downtown to the ice hockey. Ice hockey in August doesn’t feel right. Even less so when the temperature is in the mid 20s.

The reason was that Braehead Clan were in town to play ERC Ingolstadt in the Champions Hockey League. Clan’s GM had been kind enough to put us on his list for the VIP suite. Not to be passed up.

I was expecting the game to be one way traffic and a bit boring, but Clan raised their game big style. It was 2-2 with 10 minutes left and Clan only buckled when their legs did. 5-2 to Ingolstadt at the end.

The Ingolstadt fans put on a big “fanfest” for the Clan fans (several hundred of them) with a temporary Biergarten at the artificial beach by the Donau. It got Blipped.

The visitors seemed bemused by the big orange thing in the sky and the local beer, but the Red Cross were standing by.

We enjoyed our VIP experience, but agreed it’s more fun in amongst normal fans compared with the corporate hospitality crowd. Of course if the opportunity arises again, and when faced with the choice between €38 per ticket and free VIP treatment, who knows what might happen.
