Seend Lock No. 20
On Tuesday I discovered that Kennet and Avon Lock 20 on the Seend flight of locks had been closed, following damage to the top gate in the recent storms. As a result the canal had to be closed between lock 19 and 21 and engineers were inspecting the gates when I called by to take a look. Already, the broken gate had been stabilised in situ and the lock was open for supervised use during most of the day, by narrowboats only. I was given permission to take pictures but the engineers backed out of view as I raised the camera.
British Waterways have said that a stoppage to replace the broken gates will begin on Wednesday 27th June, with a planned re-opening of the lock to all traffic by Saturday 7th July.
