The Boathouse

We were supposed to be having a mid-summer-ish regatta in the village today, but it was a bit too chilly and a bit too windy for most folk! There was bunting, lots of flags, masses of food, bottles and bottles of drink and thirty folk, but only three boats, us in a dinghy, Simon in his canoe and the owner of this handsome boathouse in his little motorboat!

It was good fun, albeit in the house rather than outside, but plenty of messing about on the water and the four real children, as well as the big kids, thoroughly enjoyed being out in the boats. What they liked best was being able to put their hands in the sea! At the end there were a few cold and wet folk, but plenty of hot soup soon warmed them up.

This boathouse was just a derelict stone shed, but the owner has added bits and pieces to it over the years. He finds interesting shapes and casts them in concrete to decorate it! There are spires made from traffic cones, and bosses cast from the bottom of plastic drinks bottles, and lots of spheres taken from tennis balls! The windows are all made from old pieces of glass which is shaped and painted to look like stained glass! It's an amazing place, and a constant source of interest to visitors and tourists!
