My Time Out Corner

Dear Diary,

Today will be the hottest yet this summer so all gardening of any sort is put on hold.  I did clip a few day lily stems but before very long I was in my time out corner.  All elementary teachers know the value of such a place...to step away and regain control or, in this case, to literally cool off!

I was thinking about school yesterday afternoon.  Remembering when Sundays here in Maine meant packing up and heading back.  Now they are what Sundays should be, a sacred Sabbath of rest and reflection.  I've always loved the word "sabbath" which derives from the ancient  Hebrew verb sabat which means "to stop, to cease or to keep."

Whether you see it in religious terms, as a day to go to church, or as simply a time to take a break from routine and just be, Sabbaths are a necessary part of life I think.  We are not meant to run on high 24/7.  Yesterday was a perfect Sabbath for me and Emerson.  Today I will get  some chores done but I will definitely be taking a few "time outs" along the way!
