Watching The Tide Roll In.

I felt a bit like Otis Reading as I sat on the rocks, But he was watchin' the tide roll away. We spent a couple of hours at the beach today. When we arrived the tide was so far out we couldn't see it.

Not the nice summer morning we had hoped for but we headed down to a cove between Silverdale and Arnside. We messed around taking shots and doing some people-watching from this vantage point. One man walked across the bay to Grange=over-Sands. Very dangerous without a guide.

We noted that the Great White Egrets we had seen at Leighton Moss were down on the estuary today.

So, we waited! This shot shows areas of "dry" mud and damp mud, the tide has not yet come in. we watched it approach, not in waves but in an advancing band. Arnside is famous for its bore. Because the channel is restricted the pressure causes the inflowing tide to build up and the tide has a front wall to it.

We were amazed by the path the tide took. The flat beach was so quickly covered. The tide came around in an unexpected way.That is why there are warning posters up.

OK, lunch in the caravan, a chat with the site owner, packing up and a journey home. Shame! I have had a lovely weekend, already thinking about our next visit!
