The Armature of the Conscious perhaps?

Culture is always something
that was something
Pedants can measure
skull of bard
Thigh of chief
Depth of dried-up river
Shall we be thus forever?
Shall we be thus forever?

Into Skibbereen today to see a West Cork Creates exhibition, a collaboration between 13 artists - painting, photography, sculpture, calligraphy, ceramics, etchings etc. Housed in an old disused warehouse it was the perfect space. So many interesting pieces to admire and investigate and not a jot of ghastly artspeak.
We then went on to the new gallery, Uillin, where a Charles Tyrell exhibition of large scale paintings on aluminium were being displayed. Quite interesting and striking but it was his teeny intimate line drawings that I found especially impressive. Art speak a gogo here though - what do you make of this: The paintings attempt to achieve a distillation and intensification of the artist's experience of the manifest world; working with natural forms and forces set within the armature of the conscious and rational.'

You may or many not realise it is the Feast of the Assumption today - one of the Holy Days of Obligation in the Catholic church, marking the day Mary went to Heaven. This called for a quick trip down to the holy well to pay my respects. Dedicated to the BVM, an open air mass had been celebrated earlier . It was looking heavenly, everywhere decorated with fresh flowers.

As if that wasn't enough we are now off to the cinema to see a locally made documentary about how a Samuri sword ended up in a pub in Castletownbere. An interesting and moving story by all accounts.
