Bimbling & Culture

A day of bimbling and culture - the perfect combination. In between doing householdy and gardeningish things I was in an out like a whippet dipping into the day long live podcast from the British Museum where, in collaboration with the Almeida theatre, an entire reading of the Iliad was going on. More than 60 actors had a 10 minute section each and were romping through it. It was thrillingly done. Janet Suzman and Brian Cox were especially good but I was in awe of the actor with the beard whose heart must have sunk (or maybe not) when he found he had the passage that listed all the kings and captains, where they'd come from and how many ships they had- some incredibly complex names and tons of them and he attacked them with gusto.

In the evening we rendezvoused with TJ, enjoyed a crepe on the sea front in Baltimore, then went to a concert with Ger Wolfe, Richard Lucey and Caoimhin Valleley - voices, guitar, accordian, keyboards. It was wonderul. It was held in the church, beautifully illuminated with candles and natural light streaming through the windows. Three very shy and unassuming men with great senses of humour and terrific musicanship. Have a listen - Curra Road
By the time we arrived home around 11.30 the night sky was incredible and I was in and out looking for the Perseids - I saw one and three satellites.
