Caves of Drach

Full day trip planned to the Caves of Drach as recommended by my big sister.  We were an hour early for our tour, but the girls made full use of the free wifi as we have yet to find a good signal anywhere on the island.

Trip to visit these caves at Porto Cristo passes by the impressive cathedral at Moncur.  Well worth a visit if you have time.

Caves of Drach are a bit like 'Wooky Hole' crossed with 'Phantom of the Opera'.  I half expected Frank Spencer to appear and burst into song with Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'squeeze' Sarah Brightman. Tour involved a 3km  walk through subterranean cathedrals full of stalactites and stalagmites ("remember 'tites come down" as my old Geography teacher Mr Maclachlan used to chuckle!).

Spooky caverns with lit up rowboats carrying a string trio playing my favourite classical string pieces.  Finished with a short boat trip to Styx, crewed by Hades himself I suspect.

A welcome stop for tapas and beer at a lovely wee restaurant  in Porto Cristo which also sold handbags and jewellery for little Weegies with Euros to burn.  What's not to like?
