The Street
Well, the bonnie blue lochs of Orkney were not at all blue today under the grey skies, but we have escaped any rain save for a light drizzle after 5pm
The flat light has afforded a monochromatic vista, the only colour being in the bright oranges and yellows of the floats on the harbour boats.
This is more like the weather we expected when we brought with us our warmer clothes, only to discover we should have packed sunscreen and sunglasses.
My blip is of the 'Street' in Stromness, the main thoroughfare for pedestrians, cars, vans, bikes and the odd camper van. It is a two way street with on street parking. You might be forgiven for thinking that the residents own small cars, but you would be wrong. It seems the bigger the better.
It is amazing entertainment to watch the manoeuvres required when two should meet, we pedestrians making ourselves scarce against a wall or nearest doorway.
Our meal last night at the Hamnavoe restaurant ranked alongside the excellent Hebridean ones we had in Stornoway and Tarbert in June.
Tonight we are eating up the remaining contents of the fridge. It will not be a noteworthy meal.
