At the movies in Tighnabruaich
I went to see the new version of "Far from the Madding Crowd" tonight in Tighnabruaich which was hosting - as it does every six weeks or so - the Screen Machine. Iain MacColl, who runs the facility, lives in the village so it is also home turf for him.
The film was absorbing and although I feared it would suffer in comparison to the 1967 version in fact it is very different . The period effects are particularly impressive and visually exquisite.
I have blipped the Screen Machine before but tonight there was a TV Ad being made around it, so a wider audience may see it before long. As someone who ran a mobile cinema in the Western Isles in the late 1970s it fair takes me back - though in much greater comfort and with much better picture and sound quality.
