Favourite road
If one had to choose a favourite road, then this would almost certainly be the one for me. It's an unfenced road that runs above Caldbeck in the Northern Fells. It is quiet, seems to go on forever and the views are wonderful. We also have special memories of this road. When the children were young, we used to spend some school holidays in a house that we rented, close to Caldbeck and from which we could visit family, and we often walked up here.
Today, on our way home from a shopping trip in Carlisle, (well it wasn't really on our way, but we pretended it was!), we stopped up here and ate our lunch. The weather was changeable (isn't it always at the moment!) and the hills were covered in mist, with the sun just breaking through occasionally.
