Exhausted
This poor, tatty Gatekeeper butterfly isn't long for this world, I fear - it was moving so slowly this afternoon that I had no trouble keeping up with it. In the main image it was drinking from a blackberry flower; the first extra shows it resting on a bend marker sign, with its proboscis curled up.
The second extra shows the other end of life - a juvenile robin which sat and watched me watching it for about a minute, before deciding that enough was enough and taking itself off into the depths of the laurel tree, where many of the birds in my garden either nest or roost.
After a busy day divided between gardening, laundry and making tea for the decorators (which did at least give me the chance to discuss the cricket, as they were listening to Test Match Special) I'm feeling a little the worse for wear myself - so I will shortly be away to my rest. I'll be disconnected from the Matrix for the next couple of days, so allow me to wish you a good weekend - and I'll see you on the other side.
