Two little birds with a lot to learn.
If you can look more closely you will see two little Swallows perching on the telephone wire. They are from the first brood of five which fledged at the beginning of July. Their parents are hard at work feeding the next brood, from those tiny, fragile egg shells. I don't know how many there are yet as the nest is quite deep and I cannot see into it.
These two young Swallows have been perfecting their flying skills and learning to catch their own food. It is vital that they put on sufficient weight to make that journey to South Africa as their younger siblings, still in the nest, will have to do. Young birds have to grow up in a very short space of time, life is certainly not easy.
