The Big Bench
Broken Hill is overlooked by an enormous slag heap.
Every time Penny looked up she'd sigh wistfully and say "I want to go to the top of the slag heap!! When are we going to the top of the slag heap?"
So we went to the top of the slag heap.
And there we came upon the Big Bench, which made Penny even happier.
There was a huge tourist complex also, with items explaining the history of mining in Broken Hill, and a memorial to miners who'd lost their lives.
This has been an abject failure, and now sits empty.
In fact, it looks as though someone's walked out, locked the door and never returned.
The Big Bench is a piece of public art apparently, and Adele's daughter Zoe explained that so many people fell off the Big Bench and broke limbs, that they put a chain around it.
This, of course, did not deter our intrepid travellers who we see here, at the top of the slag heap, enjoying the vista of Broken Hill.
Other things happened today, but I'll have to get back to you.
PS As Australian big things go, I think this is second only to the big wine cask.
