Fear
A great day spent amongst like-minded people learning, sharing, thinking, feeling, photographing and expressing.
Sally Mason is a New Zealand photogrpaher who has recently moved to Nelson and today, through the local camera club, she ran the first of a 2 day workshop on 'the camera points both ways' - exploring ways to visually communicate the feeling & the mood that is perceived, in such a way that the viewer can relate instantly upon seeing it.
After the introductions and a talk during which Sally lead us to see how she creates feelings through her photography, we went along to a nearby venue that had plenty of character about it where we were challenged to photograph a series of images which generated various feelings.
'I remember...', Fear, Peace, Mystery
It was an interesting challenge. Find the feeling first then 'photograph' it. It was also a struggle to resist the tempation to photograph first then identify the feeling the image created.
This image was an attempt to try some of Sally's techniques to convey fear and whilst I feel happy enough with the image and the related feeling, I failed miserably in the use of the techniques (at least in this image.) I've added 2 other 'extras' that I was pleased with technique wise though I don't think they're such good images. Interesting? Yes. But visually less powerful I feel.
So - on to day 2 tomorrow and a bit of wabi-sabi.......looking forward to another day of full immersion.
