Due to be chopped down - so sad

As with all the plane trees lining the Canal du Midi these avenues are due to be cut down in the next 10 years. During the First WW the Americans brought over their amunition in hickory wood boxes and this wood contained a virus which has spread slowly throughout France (some say on the chain saws used to prune the trees). A virus free plane tree has been propagated but you won't see avenues the like of this again in your lifetime.
