gripping
It's on days like this that I wish the earth rotated the other way so that all the exciting please-not-again news-coverage happens before bedtime rather than firmly after it. I would consider staying up to watch it all (at least until someone hits 270) but that carries a distinct risk of having to go to work in a sleepless gritty-eyed crankystate tomorrow.
The easiest thing to have open to keep up-to-date-ish whilst at work was the BBC text-stream page at which I kept being startled by the occasional pasting-in of comments from the Have Your Say page from residents or former residents of the UK who appeared to be distinctly anti-Obama, including one frightening soul who claimed that "Politicians like Obama are why I left England and immigrated[sic] to the USA where I was tired of paying for other people to stay on the dole". Brrr. Citizens of the United States: if you find such people amongst you please do not take them as representative of this country's residents. We'll likewise remember that it's only the proportion of the eligible population who voted badly (or abstained) who should be treated as if they have either taken leave of their senses or never had them to begin with.
Still, any outcome can't be any worse than that of 2000.
Unless McCain gets in and promptly expires, leaving the verbally incompetent Creationist gun-toting climate change denialist in charge. If she was thinking straight she'd have voted Obama today; he is at least keen on stopping the conflict which threatens the life of her silly-named child.
I think I'll go to sleep but get up early to catch the result.
