E-I-E-I-O!

No, actually, this fellow is called an Io Moth!

A couple of weeks ago, I captured a huge green moth called a Luna Moth. The next day, I found an Io Moth hanging on the doorframe as I exited through the back door. Not wanting the moth to possibly fly into the house, I urged it onto a pool toy by the door, then placed the toy on the deck floor. It was only when the moth was on the floor that I noticed its big "eyes"!

A few minutes later, when I returned with camera in hand, the moth was gone. Since that day, we have left the light on above the kitchen sink, hoping it would attract an Io. No such luck....

That is, until this morning! I looked out back and found not one, but two male Io's. The only problem was that the moths had their wings closed so the "eyes" weren't revealed! I knew they were Io's by the bright yellow bodies, so I manipulated this little fellow until he finally opened his wings.

I am so psyched! Mission accomplished!
