Grandparents in training...
another lovely day with little un...
we had a social work meeting first thing this morning and then we headed over to collect little un from the foster carers. She let me put her shoes and jacket on and brush her hair and then willingly got into the car seat... First time in our car, with just us two for a 45 minute journey, which proved to be no problem... when we arrived home, she was a little bit wary to begin with, but soon started charging around remembering the different games, playing with bubbles and asking for Peppa Pig... lunch was a bit tricksy as more food ended up on her dress than in her mouth... She's really independent about eating and won't let us come anywhere near her with a spoon, but she hasn't yet quite sussed out how to get the spoon up to her mouth at the right angle so that the food doesn't fall off... me and Dave find ourselves watching open mouthed, willing the food to get to the desired target, and feeling crestfallen when it drops to the floor instead... but a back up pack of mini chedders, a bit of banana and some milk seemed to stave off any residual hunger... another afternoon of playing and then her foster carer arrived to collect her... kisses all round and after a bit of a chase around the close, she finally hopped in the car for her return journey...
Meanwhile... the crumblies have been off on the adoption 'friends and family' training day... They're already experienced grandparents to my lovely niece and nephew down under, but this course was a condensed version of all of our adoption preparation, looking at some if the unique experiences that children have when they come into a family from the care system...
Finally tonight we took a last opportunity to meet them for for a meal at the pub so that we could swap notes from the day... dinner out together isn't going to be happening for a very long time, because the next time me and Dave get out for a night, they'll be babysitting....
