old mission in San Juan Capistrano
The town of San Juan Capistrano was made famous by a song written in 1915 (then followed by a movie) about the annual return of the swallows from Argentina. The mission (church) was first built in 1776, but an earthquake knocked it down in the early 1800s, leaving only the chapel and surrounding barracks which still function as a church and museum, respectively. This is a view of the lovely gardens in the center of the barracks.
