Shinjuku View

*Backblip

The summer immediately following high school graduation, my family and I took a two-month long trip to Taiwan and Japan. This was the view from the window of the hotel room that we stayed in during our time in Japan. We stayed in Shinjuku, a municipality in the Tokyo prefecture. The phrase "concrete jungle" really stood out in my mind as I took in the view.

Yoyogi Park, in the Shibuya municipality of Tokyo, was visible from the window as well. Unfortunately, I was unable to take a panorama photo at the time. If I could have, I would be posting that picture for this entry instead. You would see a vast sea of grey and white, with a big oval-shaped patch of green right in the middle. It was bizarre to look at. Comical, frightening, and depressing all at once. Urban development is unstoppable...

Extra Photo

Forgot to blip this yesterday. So many signs... More traces of urban development.

I was originally from Taiwan, but immigrated to Canada when I was a child. This trip was the first time I had been back in 12 years. The cities we visited in Taiwan and Japan were extremely busy. All day long, cars and motorcycles rushed by, and people bustled about on the streets. When night fell, there were no signs of things slowing down. And I thought the pace was fast where I grew up... Going back was a culture shock for me, but I am glad that I had a chance to experience it. It was fun.
