Huckleberry scouting

We left early and drove east to the vicinity of Mt. Adams.
At the end of a very bumpy road is the wonderful Bird Creek Meadows, where we hiked last summer. The hike is not hard,
(I think it's at 5,000- 6,000 ft elevation) meandering through wildflower filled meadows,  which are crossed by glacial creeks, and several impressive waterfalls. After driving down from the mountain, we stopped for huckleberry pie and coffee, and headed to the berry fields to scope out the situation. As
I suspected, the huckleberries have ripened much earlier than usual, due to our warm summer. The blip is of the Columbia River Gorge from the Hood River bridge, as we made our way  back home. The extras are: Some interesting volcanic rock formations along the hike; a family on horses on the road near the trail head; Mt. Adams, and a waterfall from the hike.
