Plight of the Hummingbird

Unemployment gives me an inordinate amount of time to look out the window. Yesterday, I noticed this hummingbird was resting at the feeder and a branch nearby. He seemed to be panting and had a white area on his bill. I became sure I had poisoned him with bad nectar, so I sterilized the feeder and made a new batch of nectar. Today I saw him again sitting at the feeder perch and then on the clothesline. I like to think he looks a little better. I slunk outside toward him to take this picture with my miserable 5x lens. Shortly after, a crow swooped through the yard, and I hope he didn't get this little guy. Nature is a drama queen.

My son heard this story and said I need to get out of the house!
