Bumps in the Road

Melt down!

It's been really muggy the last few days in San Diego.  It's normally quite a temperate climate but the area's had some rain and the humidity has gone up, up, up.

Cue the three of us having a meltdown-down down! After picking the wee man up from preschool, I took him and his sister to the Botanical Gardens (or the Alphabet Garden as he refers to it).  I don't know what it is about being in nature, but it always prompts the wee man to...um, well, basically do his own bit of fertilising in his nappy!

This was not a good scenario - i had a tired wee lass in the sling, a tired wee man in a dirty nappy who didn't want to be changed, a sleep deprived mama, and a very small, non-airconditioned toilet to do the nappy changing. Despite being very fiddly, the nappy changing itself didn't go too badly but then ernie knocked the bin over, I reacted and he started crying hysterically. Then his sister started crying hysterically, too. I would've joined in but i was too busy sweating and losing my cool, yelling 'that's it!! We're going home!!!'

When we finally ecaped the dungeon, everyone chilled out and the wee man agreed it was a good idea to go home. As soon as we got in the car, they both passed out soI drove around for an hour, enjoying the 'serenity'.

Thankfully, when we got home, everyone was refreshed and feeling better. We all sat playing on the bed when the wee lass suddenly got a fit of giggles looking at the wee man's socks.  And every time he wiggled his toes, she would erupt into more uncontrollable laughter. It set both me and her brother off as well, and it was lovely to have that moment of joy to counteract our previous blues.

There truly isn't anything more therapeutic than hearing your kids' laughter, is there?

(ps the photo is of the wee lass making the most of her brother being away at preschool this morning!)
