Bumps in the Road

Well licked!

(Nikki filling in while Jim's away)

The wee man has developed a curious habit of licking things recently.  Yummy popsicles are fine, but we've also caught him licking the floor, his toys, chairs, and then, the other day, he licked a dishwasher tablet!

Thankfully, he wasn't too pleased about how the tablet tasted - cue a few minutes of inconsolable crying -  but he enjoyed licking everything else.

I did a quick Google search about it. Once i input 'toddler licking', the auto search's first suggestion was 'toddler licking things' so i guess it's a pretty common behaviour, ha! There was one page that suggested the licking could be a sign of vitamin or mineral deficiency, but am guessing it's just a normal curiosity about senses and tastes?

I remember when I was little, I was suddenly overcome by the idea of biting my bed sheets. The idea of what it would taste like just popped into my head and it wouldn't go away.  So eventually I did chomp on my bed sheets - 'bllleggghhhhh' - it was a horrible metallic tang in my mouth (I still can taste it when i think about it even today).  Even so, I kept on doing it sporadically for years!

Hopefully the wee man isn't quite as weird as his mama!
