Tiniest of the wee!
This is the genuine Scottish primrose, Primula scotica. I grew a batch from seed some years ago, but they're not long-lived and I failed to collect seed from them when they flowered.
This spring, however, one tiny seedling appeared in a pot of something else in the cold frame and now it's flowering.
This plant, which grows only in the north of Scotland and in Orkney, is very small - the plant in the picture is around 30mm tall and each flower is about 5mm across. It does grow slightly bigger, but not a great deal. It's very slightly more purple than the picture shows.
A species of grazed and well-drained grassland, it's becoming extremely rare. I've seen it growing at the edge of a forestry plantation right up on the north coast.
