Uncovered....
....uncovered by recent storms and high seas which have eroded many tonnes of sand from the sand dunes was this perfectly preserved horse's head.As we walked past the exposed sand bank I saw part of this yellowed bone and was quite surprised it was the skull of a horse.I brought home to show to our grandson who is fascinated with dinosaurs, fossils and the like. Needless to say there have been lengthy discussions as to how it came to die and be there. Perhaps it was a horse of a soldier involved in the Maori wars in the 1860's, perhaps the horse of a farmer who was herding stock, perhaps it was pack horse taking provisions down the coast to an isolated community, perhaps..........
