Lala's Journal

Rover LOL

I'm sure if you're reading my journal, you'll wonder at the title. If you continue to read it will become clearer. The photo is of my Mum, who passed away last year. When we cleared the house we found her wedding dress, and this is a collage of her on her wedding day and some close ups of the dress that we donated to the School of Historic Dress in London.

The tale I tell today happened on Saturday, but I haven't actually felt able to write it before now.

4 or 5 years ago Mum decided she wasn't able to drive any more,. She owned a P registered purple Rover 216 with the number plate LOL. She gave it to Mr Lala who didn't have a car and for several years it served us very well. I loved the car and was most upset when Mr Lala decided it was 'on its way out' and traded it in. He did that the very same week that Mum's house was sold. We had words!

He has been driving his Suzuki since January, the car dealer told him the Rover (affectionally known as Polly) would probably go for scrap and spares.

Last Saturday, before I got ready for work, we went into New Romney, a five minute drive away from our new house to pick up a parcel and some bits for the house from the Ironmongers. As we walked, Mr Lala started to say something and then I heard him sort of groan. There, outside the Ironmongers was Polly!

She had spent 12 years in the New Forest, 4 in Chatham and here she was in New Romney.
I burst into tears, and was good for nothing for several minutes and in fact was quite emotional for the next couple of hours.

Yes, the family have all said things like 'it's a sign she's with you' and 'she followed you, and she's letting you know she is happy you moved' but seriously i cant think like that. I still find it creepy and disturbing.

I know she would have been happy for me anyway.
