Day 't Seaside

With the weather set fair, we went with our friends to Whitby for a day at the seaside.

To assist for the onslaught of sightseeing, we started with coffees and slices of brack, a kind of Yorkshire tea loaf .
We then felt energised sufficiently to climb the 199 steps to look at the old church of St Mary with its individual gated pews and solid fuel stove for central heating and the ruins of Whitby Abbey, taking pictures at judicious stops on the way up the steps.The blip is one of the views over the town.

We did a little retail therapy which produced an authentic Whitby patterned gansey for me ...........and a Pritt stick for HL, before recovering with late fish and chip lunch at the Magpie Café over looking the harbour.

A sketching session having produced nothing of worth for me, we decided to cut our losses and head back home stopping at Sutton Bank for a walk in the evening sun.

Our au revoirs were said over drinks at the inn in Sutton under Whitestone Cliffe.
We head home to Edinburgh tomorrow having had a wonderful four days in the beautiful surroundings of North Yorkshire with Bruce and Carole, a couple whom we met only eight months ago on our Indian rail holiday but who have become firm friends.
They have been marvellous guides to parts of the Dales and Moors we would otherwise never have discovered.
