For some time we been thinking about lowering a ruin below the house - it isn't exactly stable and stones could fall off it onto the road. Our builder friend Guy produced some pulley mechanism and that was going to sort it.
However, as Archimedes observed, to move the earth you need a lever and that lever needs solid foundation. The latter was what we failed to produced and so the wall remained where it was.
Not to be dismayed however, Guy phoned a friend who lives just up the valley and sure enough in the afternoon Michel arrived with his digger.
Short work was made of the ruin and it is now left for mew to tidy up the edges. What would have been several days work has become an hour.
