On the wall
pennybun and I met accidently on a photographic weekend on Holy Island over two and a half years ago. We somehow realised that we were both Blippers and proceeded to amuse our fellow photographers as we talked 'blipspeak'. Since then we have communicated via Blip and I have always followed her Bus Pass Adventures with interest and admiration. When she said her next one was to be Coast to Coast I suspected she was heading north to follow Hadrian's Wall. I was right - she was attempting to go, by bus, coast to coast from South Shields to Bowness-on-Solway in one day. She did it yesterday. Amazing!
As she knew she had some time in Carlisle today, we decided to meet up. We had coffee at the John Watts Cafe and then had a wander round the city. It was interesting at the Cathedral, as graduation ceremonies were happening and the place was thronging with formally dressed students and their parents. We followed the old city walls to the castle and then decided, as it had turned out to be a lovely afternoon, to go across to the park. We had a delightful wander through the park and gardens and by the River Eden. Here we came across this model of Hadrian's Wall, with blocks representing the main forts along the way.
So here is the intrepid bus traveller sitting on the Wall, celebrating her achievement.
A really lovely day spent in the company of a delightful blipper. Great to meet again. We won't leave it so long until the next time.
