Den Wood, Oldmeldrum: View of Bennachie

Mrs Catspaw had the day off today, on account of it being an Aberdeen Local Holiday, so we took a drive to Formartine's and to Haddo Trout Lake to look at the growing cygnets (of which there are now just four, sadly). We also saw a huge variety of insects on the foliage as we were walking round the lake, which will take us a while to identify (in just a moment...)

On the way home, we stopped off at Den Wood near Oldmeldrum, owned by the Woodland Trust - which I had noticed in passing a few weeks ago, but not gone in, so that we could explore it together.

It is in fact a real gem of a place. And the long walk to the Beeches at the summit of the wood is rewarded by wonderful views of Bennachie.
