I took this through one of our kitchen windows ( good job they were clean! )

Goldfinches have long fine beaks which allow them to extract otherwise inaccessible seeds from thistles and teasels.

If you want them to visit your garden just buy a feeder and fill it with niger or sunflower seeds!
